Objective: To detect the expression of proteins related to the serotonin pathway in the lung tissue of dogs affected with pulmonary hypertension (PH) secondary to degenerative mitral valve disease (DMVD) compared to DMVD and healthy control dogs.

Summary: Proteins related to the serotonin signaling pathway were increased in lung tissue of DMVD dogs with PH, suggesting that the serotonin signaling pathway may be involved with the pathogenesis of PH. Inhibition of proteins related to the serotonin signaling pathway may be a target of interest or provide a novel therapeutic approach in PH secondary to DMVD.
