Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase localized at focal adhesions, specialized structures that connect the extracellular matrix to the actin cytoskeleton. Tensin, another focal adhesion component, is a multi-domain protein implicated in cell migration, fibrillar adhesion formation, cartilage development, and the integration of signaling pathways with the cytoskeleton. Tensin has also been identified as a potential therapeutic target in renal disease, wound healing, and cancer.
