Microtubules are dynamic cytoskeletal structures essential for diverse functions in eukaryotic cells, including chromosome movement during mitosis and meiosis, intracellular transport, cell shape maintenance, growth, migration, and morphogenesis. Their stability and organization are regulated by microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs), which bind to tubulin subunits along the microtubule lattice. MAP1B, a major neuronal MAP, has been shown through mouse gene knockout studies to play a critical role in the development and function of the nervous system.
