Microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) are a group of proteins that bind to and stabilize microtubules within the cellular cytoskeleton. Microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2), encoded by the MAP2 gene, is a member of this family. In research, MAP2 antibodies are commonly used to identify neuronal cells and to trace dendritic processes. Dysregulation or alteration of MAP2 has been linked to diseases such as central neurocytoma and olivopontocerebellar atrophy.
